Yekaterina (Katerina) Somerov and her husband live in Kibbutz Nahal Oz with their young son. They are a believing family. On October 7, they were in their home when terrorists entered. The couple was in their safe room and their son was in another room.
Miraculously, the terrorists did not search the rooms they were in. It appears one of them was injured as they found blood all over their house when they were finally safe enough to leave their rooms, which is possibly why they were spared. During the many months they spent evacuated they dreamed of returning to their home but wanted to renovate and renew it so it wouldn’t remind them of what they went through there.
They wanted to continue with their vision of being a light in the kibbutz without having to relive the trauma of seeing the home that was violated by terrorists and having to relive the horror of what they went through and what they saw when they left their rooms on October 7th. By renovating they can stay in their home and yet have it feel like a new home. HaTikva project was happy to help with this expense.
