A Lifeline for Asmela Amid Crisis

Asmela is a single mother of 3 children (9,8, and 5), and a refugee from Eritrea. She and her children were evacuated from Ashkelon and currently staying in the Baptist village. She has not been in contact with her ex-husband for the last 4 years. She had been working for a cleaning company in the area where she lives, but since the outbreak of the war, having been evacuated from her home, she is unable to work or even travel to a new job because her children do not physically attend school either, but are forced to do distance learning until she can return home.

Since Asmela does not work, she was unable to pay the rent for the months of October and November and had already received an ultimatum from the landlord that if she did not pay soon she would be evicted and wouldn’t have a home to return to.

HaTikva project was able to help her pay her rent and keep her in her home until she was allowed to return.
