A son’s sacrifice, A family’s grief, and the healing people like you help make possible.
On October 14, 2023, just seven days after the war began, Gideon and Nellie Bayer faced an unimaginable loss: the death of their beloved son, a young combat soldier stationed in Gaza. After intense fighting in the south, he succumbed to his wounds. His passing left a hole not just in the hearts of his family but in all of us who believe in courage, service, and the sanctity of life.
What makes this story even more remarkable is that the Bayer family, Christians originally from Germany, weren’t required to serve in the Israeli army. Their son volunteered. Out of a deep sense of commitment and solidarity, he chose to defend a country that had become his home. In doing so, he gave his life.
In the wake of their loss, you made a difference. Thanks to the generosity of people like you, we were able to offer the Bayer family a bereavement gift, a gesture of love and support during their darkest hour.
The family shared how they plan to use this meaningful gift, one to buy a quality violin for their young daughter, who has been playing since the age of five. Music has become her solace, a way to process grief. They also plan to take a family vacation, a brief but much-needed time of peace and healing after the storm of this devastating year and a half.
Thank you for standing with the Bayers.
